Is The Traditional Fence Obsolete?

Many pet owners wish they could contain their pets without having to construct and maintain a physical fence, a desire now possible with the invention of the invisible fence.  The invisible fence works by giving your pet a tiny shock when they step outside a boundary set by underground wires, and tripped by a collar attached to the pet.  The question is, does this invention make physical fences obsolete?

The answer depends on the area in which you live.  Predators like coyotes, wolves, and even other dogs and cats will be able to get inside your yard with no effort.  Small pets will have little defense against such predators, and are vulnerable to an attack.  If your area is free from predators, not having a physical fence can work out in your favor.
