New Kitty Cat to Our Home

There are lots of things one needs to consider when bring a new cat home to be with the family.

• First, select a veterinarian to help you care for your cat. Set up an appointment for his/her physical to have a clean bill of health and a schedule for boosters shots, spaying and other things your feline friend will need to be a healthy cat.
• If there are children in the home let them participate on how to care for their new companion. Read up as much as possible on how to care for your new cat.  You can find lots of articles on the internet for any specific question you may have about your cat care.
• If you have gotten your cat from a pet store, veterinarian or friend make sure you ask them their feeding schedule and type of food.  Once your new kitty has settled in the new home, gradually mix in the new food you’ll be using because cats generally don’t like changes in their diet.
• Purchase the essential item you will need such as a litter box and litter, feeding dishes, a cat bed, grooming tools, cat scratcher,  a climber and a few toys.
• Make sure someone in the family be responsible for feeding your cat, cleaning the litter box daily and grooming your little friend.
• and, finally make sure you have play time and quite time with your new kitty cat.

A  spa and back rub for your cat should be in your daily cat grooming schedule.

Make sure your cat receives all the prescribed vaccinations to protect against common diseases to keep your cat healthy.

Provide your baby cat with plenty of good quality premium food.

Give your cat lots of love and attention.  Brush them regularly to keep your little friends well groomed and free of matted hair.  Play with them daily for at least 15 to 20 minutes with their favorite game or toy.

Make sure the have the proper health care by visiting the veterinarian once a year for his/her annual exam to make sure your cat is healthy.  Then problems are discovered early in a cats life, they are usually more successfully treated.

A cat vomits for a variety of reasons.

Your cat will normally and naturally vomit up hair balls. This is a perfectly natural part of her life and you need to be more concerned if it doesn’t happen, particularly at seasonal changes when she malts. These times will vary, but are normally at the end of summer and winter.

Your cat will eat grass to help her vomit. Again, this is perfectly normal if it is occasional. If it is regular, there could be an underlining cause.

Digestion takes up an enormous amount of energy. If your cat has a health problem, she will not want to waste valuable energy on digesting. A well fed cat can fast for many days without coming to any harm.

Cats are well renowned as self sufficient animals, but often when cats start to become older, it’s common for a senior cat to need a little help. When cats get older, sometimes they’ll stop grooming themselves on a regular basis. When this happens, it might be necessary to give the cat a bath, which is quite possibly the least enjoyable experience an owner will ever encounter. Most cats hate the water, though some breeds don’t mind it quite as much. Bathing a cat can be an essential part of senior cat care, so it’s important to prepare for it. It’s best to wear thick rubber gloves, and to get the bathing done as quick as possible. Cats have a sixth sense, so it’s best to turn on the water, and then leave the bathroom. Never call them into the bathroom where the water is, always carry them in from another location. It is important to have the gloves on in advance however, and some cats might be clever enough to know the gloves mean bath time, so try to be careful and sneak up on them.

It might also be necessary to trim a cat’s claws now and then, though this is less common as most cats continue to sharpen their claws on a regular basis. If nail trimming is needed, make sure to be aware of the differences between cat nails and human nails, and how best to cut them.

When your setting on the couch and your cat joins you, what do you think happens when they are in a happy comfortable mood. Well they fold their paws under the chin and start purring while licking your hand. The question is why do they purr.  As you know cats purr when they are contented and generally happy.  If you have spent a lot of time with a happy cat in your lap, you will notice that the cat purrs both when she inhales and when she exhales.  So why your petting you feline friend who is totally content, start using your cat grooming tools and techniques  making her feel even better and loved.

Purring is the rhythmic vibrating sound that all cats can produce when they are in a content state. It is an instinctual response in domestic cats that can be seen at the onset of life when the newborn kitten purrs as it suckles milk from its mother. This is often demonstrated by the purring that occurs when cat owners simply approach their pets, and of course when the pets are being petted.

There is still a lot that is unknown about cat purring. Researchers are still undecided as to the original location of purring. Seemingly coming from the larynx, exactly where the purring comes from is unknown. There are interesting discoveries being made however. Current veterinary neurological theories about cat purring do demonstrate that during purring the cat’s brain releases endorphins, a chemical compound similar to morphine. This is the same hormone that humans produce when they feel euphoric but also while under stress. Further research into the genetic aspects of purring continue as well.

Because it’s very difficult for the “experts” to examine the innards of a cat while she’s purring, no one seems to really know exactly why or how cats purr. “It seems that purring is sort of a Zen thing. Cats purr because they can,” according to Susan Daffron
