I have never heard of the term “Eosinophilic Keratitis” in the forty years being a devoted cat lover. However, about two months ago our lovable Michael came down with this eye disease. At first we thought it was a minor eye infection to be cured by eye drops. Boy! Were we wrong. After thirty days of applying two separate medicines, Michael still had a severe eye infection. I then took Mike back to the Veterinarian and he diagnosed the problem to be none other than Eosinophilic Keratitis. The doctor explained this to be a virus cased by upper repository function. I still wanted to know what and why this occurred with Mike’s eyes.

So, when I got home from the doctor’s office I Googled and found the following definition supplied by Dr’s Suzanna Mackey, Laurence D. Mackey and Kenneth S. Lationer: “Feline eosinophilic keratitis typically presents as a white to pink plaque that affects a variable portion of the cornea The most common location of the initial lesion is at the temporal limbus, while the second most common site of development occurs at the nasal limbus. Lesions may progress to involve multiple quadrants of the eye. In addition, FEK may eventually become a bilateral condition, if left untreated. Grossly, the corneal plaque has the appearance of a thick white deposit of material that has a gritty consistency and can easily be removed by scraping.”

After reading the clinical definition, I still don’t know the problem. What I do know is that Michael’s eye looks like this picture and I do know if not treated he will go blind. So, if any one out there in internet space would tell me what the problem is in Simple English, I would certainly appreciate your inspiration.

After taking Prednisolone Acatate Ophthalmic and Gentamicin Sulfate eye drops together, Michael has a clear eye. I really don’t know if this problem will return, but if it does we now know how to solve the problem.

One would ask why have I written this article? Well it all about taking care of your cat. Cat Care is one of the most important thing one can do to protect your feline friend and extend their life cycle. Just remember, they are just like your “Kids”

My next article is about Cats, Kids and Fish. Look for it soon!

Everyone deplores this killing. Many characterize it as “necessary evil.”There is nothing necessary about this evil. Today’s animal control system developed over 100 years ago to address certain serious harms that dogs posed to humans. It was, and is still today, based on ownership of animals.

Animal control laws attempt to control animals by controlling their owners. Animals who do not have owners or whose owners cannot comply must be either adopted or killed.

The fate of our nation’s cats is changing – due to a massive grassroots movement to stop the killing of cats across the country.

I am opposed to the misguided view that killing is a “necessary evil.” I know that the killing of cats in shelters is unethical and must stop. I pledge to do one or more of the following:

- Call my Mayor and urge her or him to support laws that stop the killing of cats.
- Learn more about the movement to stop the killing of cats by receiving information from Alley Cat Allies.
- Share what I have learned with my family and friends, so that they can also help protect our nation’s cats.
- Write a letter to the editor of my local newspaper
Michael Passed Away Today from Heart Failure

Michael had heart problems for the past six months. He was on a daily dosage twice daily to keep his arteries open from blockage. He was only 4 years old and one of my most favorite cats. We will really miss him. Blessed am I… for Michael passing my way. He has brought lots of happiness and joy to our Family.

Michael was adopted and brought into the Cat Palace USA family several years ago. He was abandoned by his family and just dropped off at the Human Society. Vern knew him because his ex-wife gave birth to him and his sisters from a barn cat. When we found out he was abandoned on a Friday, we adopted him the next Monday.

Michael was an unusual cat because he loved to communicate with you by constantly talking to you all day long. Wherever you went, Michael would follow and constantly chatter. He loved the great out doors and would spend countless hours bathing in the sun, playing with the mice in the field and chasing his brothers and sister around the property. When Vern came home from work, Michael was always waiting for him on the front porch. He would immediately start talking to you when one got out of the car. When it was time for him to come in for the evening, you could call for him and no matter where he was in the fields, Mike would always let you know where he was and come running home as fast as he could.

Michael was the King of the household and all the other cats knew he was dad’s favorite. This last week his sister, Teetle, has been in morning looking for Michael everywhere. We told her that he has going to heaven and that he is ok. We regret that he had such a short life.

Michael has been cremated to be placed with Father’s remains in the future. He will never be separated from his loved ones and his family for eternity. We all really miss him alot. He was just one kind of individual that you will always miss and remember the moments spent with him in his short life.

Michael, we all love you very much and will miss your presence. Please be well and enjoy heaven as much as you did at home with your family.
