There are five major reasons your cat stop using his/hers littler box

1. Litter box is dirty. If the box is dirty, your cat will probably go somewhere else in your house.

2. Using the “wrong” litter. Some cats prefer some types of litter over others. If you cat doesn’t like the litter, he’ll stop using the box.

3. Litter box is placed in an undesirable location, or the cat is blocked from the box by a more dominating cat in the household.

4. Box size is too small or there are too few boxes. If you have multiple cats, there needs to be lots of clean boxes – at least one per cat.

5. Medical problems including diabetes, cystitis & bladder stones. Always have your cat examined by your vet to make sure there isn’t an underlying medical problem.

One way to solve your problem is a self cleaning litter box. If you can’t get to cleaning daily try using the electronic cat litter boxes. There are several type in different price ranges. If it a dirty litter box problem, you’ll be really surprise the efficiency of a automatic new box.

My cat JJ had a urinary track infection which required surgery to eliminate the problem. However after some time I found JJ was not using the litter box but doing his business right next to the box. I spent many hours trying to figure out how to retrain him to use the appropriate cat litter boxes. Because I have 7 cats I found out the following remedies to reintroduce JJ to using the littler box instead of the floor. Here is what I found out and want to share with all you cat lovers who might have the same problem.

Like I indicated above it may be a medical problem, including diabetes, cystitis (inflammation of the bladder), bladder infections & bladder stones. You should have your cat examined by a veterinarian for any of these problems.

A sexually male or female that has begun to spray should be neutered immediately. Spraying is urine marking in the standing position. Cats that have been spraying for only a short period of time are more likely to return to normal than cats that have been spraying for a long period of time. The sooner these animals are neutered, the less likely they are to continue spraying urine which marks their territory.

One of the major thing to consider is the poor choice of litter. Some cats don’t like certain textures or oder and will become very picky about their litter. You need to notice when your cat stopped using the box when you have changed to a different kind of litter.

If you have multiple cats you will need multiple boxes in different areas of the house. Dominate cats can intimidate your other cats in the house from using the litter box.

Cats are creatures of habit. Often, if their routine is disturbed, they urinate in inappropriate locations. Changing the location of food, water, and bed can cause urine marking. Changing the location of familiar objects should be done gradually in order to avoid anxiety attacks. Each day, the box should be moved only a few inches. If the box is moved too quickly, the cat may urinate in the original location.

You should clean the litter boxes at least once a day, but I prefer twice daily because of my multiple cats. I also prefer clumping litter and filling the box almost up to the top. Cats like to bury their waste, thus eliminating odors after using the box.

So if your having problems, I recommend you investigate the above solutions so you and your cat can become happy friends.

“JJ,” said Joey, “Have you noticed how much time Mom and Dad spend cleaning up our old litter box?”

JJ, who had been sitting in the Habikat Cat Patio watching the leaves falling in the yard said, “Well, I
haven’t been keeping a record of it but they both spend some time getting it cleaned up and in order.
Why do you ask?”

Joey nodded and then went on, “Auzzie said that it is going to be a hard winter after this drought we’ve
had and he thinks we might be spending more time indoors this winter. I know that I hate going out in
the cold.”

JJ replied, “What’s your point? How does one affect the other?”

Joey stretched and went on, “The other day when we were over at Maggie’s house for her birthday party
I noticed that she had a LitterMaid litter box near the backdoor. When I mentioned it to her she said that
her folks had found that it was the best way to keep the area neat and clean. I thought that with
Christmas coming on we might get one for Mom and Dad, to make their lives a little easier.”

“Have you asked Auzzie what he thinks?” JJ asked.

Joey replied, “He seems to know a lot about the different models of cat litter boxes there are. He said theyare easy to use and the are self-cleaning, too! The specially designed receptacles make the cleaning job
a snap.”

Cat lovers around the world know that the smell of cat litter can be a little nerve wracking, and that is often why we put the litter box in an out of the way place. However, there are a number of methods to mask the scent of cat litter and odors without a whole lot of effort. First of all, an air purifier can be a great solution to eliminating the unpleasant smell of cat litter boxes. If you don’t have an air purifier or don’t wish to purchase one, you can also use air freshener with an odor eliminator. It’s important that the air freshener contains an odor eliminator otherwise it’s just covering the smell. You might also consider switching your litter as some litters don’t contain the odor eliminating products others do.

Find the solution that works for you, and your home will be free from the litter box odor and you can focus on enjoying the company of your cat!

Now we’ve got this attractive piece of furniture that doubles as a functional area for the cat. This is a great example of function following form. Not only does it look fantastic it works well too. Sometimes when things just won’t change you have to try something new, and that’s exactly what the manufacturers of this remarkable new product did!
