Training Outdoor Cats

November 13th, 2008 · No Comments · Cat Door

Cat Entry DoorKeeping an indoor/outdoor cat is not as difficult as you might think.  Cats will associate the indoors with their home when growing up there as a kitten, and tend to stay relatively near should they venture outside.  To prevent an indoor cat from drifting too far from home, you will want to offer them food and protection.  You should have a call of some kind that lets your cat know it’s time to return home, this could be the sound of your voice, or a can opener, or a rattling sound like kibble in a dish.  Installing a cat door is also wise in case your cat gets into trouble outside with a dog or another cat.

Before you let your cat roam around outdoors, you might want to take them out on a leash a few times, or at least show them the yard so they become familiar with it.
