What is a domestic cat?

January 30th, 2009 · No Comments · Uncategorized

The domestic cat is all breeds of cats that live with humans.  The domestic cat is known as the felis catus and their relationship with us goes back to the Ancient Egyptian days, 4,000 years ago.  It is believed that rodents is what brought cats to humans then.

Today the domestic cat is part of the family.  They have retained their natual hunter instints and many will tend to bring us presents from time to time in the way of dead birds or dead rodents.  The domestic cat can see well at night and have very acute hearing.  Of course they are very agile due to the long tail giving them balance.  Cats can communicate by marking a tree or your furniture.  They also can be very vocal with a purr or a screeching sound that sounds very much like a human baby.

Many cats sleep in bed with their owners but this can get very uncomfortable for the human to share their bed with the cat.  Many people buy cat beds for their loving pet and try very hard to get them to use it, but sometimes to no avail.  Whatever the situation you have your cat is your friend!
