Water is the Breath of Life, especially with our feline friend. Most of us do know that cats need fresh drinking water every day for optimum health. Water is essential for helping the kidneys flush out toxics from the blood. Water also helps keep other organ tissues hydrated and healthy. Dehydration in cats is dangerous, and if not treated, can lead to death. Cats in kidney failure – either acute or chronic, often require extra fluids given either intravenously or by subcutaneous drip. The latter therapy is often carried out at home and is relatively easy to learn and perform. With most cats, the improvement after these treatments is significant and visable.
In nature, moving water is much fresher than stagnant water. The movement constantly breaks the surface tension of the water and draws oxygen from the air into the water. This process is called aeration and it makes water more appealing to drink. Cats may be drawn by instinct to moving water for this reason. The drinkwell cat fountain filters and aerates continuously moving water to keep it much fresher than standing bowl water.
